Birds????? Don't you envy the freedom of birds, that they can fly without mechanical assistance? And no ticket needed!
BIRDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? I have a SWEET little cockatiel and I want to get more birds. I have been reading about illigers mini macaws and everyone says they are really sweet and get along well with other birds. That sounds perfect for me! I also want to get a blue crown conure, sun conure, jardines parrot, and a panama amazon. I won't get all of these, but could I house it with some of the similar sized, species friendly birds? In a very large cage of course.
How do I keep large black birds away from my bird feeders? I have bird feeders in my yard to feed the tiny little birds that fly about, especially this time of year when it's really cold. The problem I am having is that there are alot of crow / black birds in our area and they are absolutely relentless when it comes to the bird feeders. I really don't care for these black birds at all. They eat or destroy all the food for the little birds in a short amount of time. Does any one have a sensible solution to this bird problem, besides shooting the black birds. We have plenty of woods and fields for these black birds to hang out in....Not my bird feeders!
WHy are there so many birds suddenly gathering around my house? We don't have a bird feeder, or birdboxes. but recently there have been several species of birds coming to nest in our window sills (we have a wall of a bunch of windows, and now there at 3 birds nests in them) also, birds will continuously throw themselves up against the glass. i woudn't be so freaked, but the birds are all diffrent kinds. as i write this now i am listening to two diffrent birds throw themselves against a window. I don't mind this...it just strikes me as odd. and it has never happened before in all of the years i've lived here. anyone have any answers?
How can I keep birds away from our window air conditioners? It seems every year when we put in the window A/C units, the birds arrive! They hang around the units and all I hear all day is chirping and little bird feet on metal. I hate birds, they are filthy and I would NEVER have a bird in my home as a pet, oh the thought makes me shudder! I just want them to go away, how can I do it without harming them, I dont like birds but posion or any method which could hurt or kill them is out of the question. Can you help?
How do you get a bird or birds to use a bird house? If you can tell me tips on what you can do to get birds to use a bird house. I have always made wonderful birdhouses but the birds never use them.I would also like if you can tell me what type of birdhouse works best. Thank you so much.
How do I keep birds from eating flowers in my container garden? I have also seen squirrels and chipmunks, so I bought Shake Away--it seemed to work for the most part if I keep putting it out there. I also bought a pinwheel and some hologram ribbon that is supposed to keep birds away, but these have not worked--the birds keep going into the containers. I've replaced some of my flowers already, and when I see that they've been dug up (sometimes they've been removed completely and put on the ground) I just replant and hope that the roots take hold again. I have always lived on the second floor with a porch garden, and never had problems like this, even though there were a lot of birds. Now I'm on the first floor and I can't get them to stay away. There were a lot of neighbors that had bird feeders, and management requested they be removed because the squirrel problem was getting worse. Are they so hungry now they are going for the flowers? I cannot put moth balls out, since they cause me to have an asthma attack. Any suggestions would help!
How do you keep a hawk from killing birds at a birdfeeder? I feed wild birds throughout the winter for the fun of it and don't want to quit feeding them, but a hawk keeps killing them. I live in a semi-rural area in Southern Ohio and love my birds. The feeder is near my kitchen window (15ft) and the Hawk swoops in from field and scares the birds. Normally birds fly into the window and the hawk picks them up and carries them away. It has killed over 8 birds and it has left 2 birds to die on my deck. Please help me. -thanks
How can I attract birds to my bird feeder? I put up a bird feeder a couple of days ago, and not one single bird has come near it... I tried putting bird seed on the ground and I was successful in getting the attention of some blue jays, but they avoided the feeder... Does anyone know why birds are avoiding my feeder? Does anyone know how to get the birds to feed from my feeder? Should I buy a bird bath? BTW I live in south Florida....
What was the number of birds on that tree? Once upon time, there was a bird that landed on a tree. The bird had noticed a group of birds on the same tree. He said “hello hundred birds”. One of the birds replied “we are not hundred, but if you sum the total number of us plus the same number of us plus the half of us plus a quarter of us plus yourself, only then the total number will be hundred birds”. Then, the poor bird decided to run away. What was the number of birds on that tree?
How to keep wild birds from flying into glass door? My mother had a new storm door installed and I guess wild birds see the light reflected and think there's a hole there. They keep flying into it and one or two song birds have died. What can she do to help prevent birds from flying into her glass door? It must be a reflection on the glass as the door behind it is dark brown and generally closed.
How do birds know when to return to the north for mating season? I am asking this question for my husband. He wants to know how a bird that flys south for the winter knows when to fly north for mating season. Example: the Red Breasted Robin flys south for the winter months and then returns north in the early springtime to nest. What instincts, or what in nature tells the birds to return to the north? We both thank you for any and all answers in advance.
Why are 2 different kinds of birds sitting on the nest on my back porch? These birds built a nest on the porchlight. I always see a robin sitting on it. Well the other day, my mom says she saw a little bird that was blue with white under the wings sitting on it. What kind of bird might that be? And why would a bird other than the one nesting sit on that nest?
How do we get birds to build their nest somewhere else? We have a window arch over our front door. Two birds are building a nest in the window arch. There are no eggs so far- just twigs, grass, & moss. My husband is afraid the nest will fall on our heads as we go out the door. He has knocked it down twice and put a fake rubber snake up there. The birds keep coming back. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the birds to build their nest somewhere else? We don't want to hurt them. We just want them to build somewhere else.
how long does it usually take birds to notice a bird feeder? We live in Southern Michigan in an apartment complex. There are a lot of crab apple trees lined up and one about 15 feet in front of our balcony. We've seen (and heard) lots of birds that seem to be living in that tree, and some that seem to live inside vent covers on the side of the building. I don't know what kind of birds they are, but they are very small and not very colorful, with patterns of brown, black, white, and maybe a hint of yellow on some. The seed we put in was a fruit-sunflower mix (with those little round ones, too). The feeder is hanging at the edge of the balcony (second floor) about 3 feet higher than the tree. We put the feeder up last night, and this morning, one or two birds noticed the spilled seed on the balcony, but none have actually gone to the feeder. We tried putting little piles of seed on the rails of the balcony leading up to the feeder, but they haven't found those either. Do I need to adjust something for them to take notice?

What are the names of hugest birds and what they look like? I'm trying to figure out the bird my friend, Sarah, saw a couple days before her dad died. I think it may be an urban legend about a witch who could turn into a huge bird. I want to know the birds that are about the size of hawks and above it's height. I want to find it out to help my friend, Sarah, figure out what bird her mom told her to get in the house for.
How do I keep birds out of my tree's at home? Every night, I park my truck on the curb. We have two very old Oak Tree's on our property. During the summer, birds land and nest in the tree's and crap all over my truck. I'll wash the truck and come home from work. The next day, there is bird crap all over my black truck. Ive been putting up with it for years, now its time to do something. Instead of hurting the birds physically or cutting down the trees, is there a cost-affective way to just keep them out of the Tree's? Please Help?
How can I attract wild birds to my garden? I have put a bird table with feeders full of wild seeds & peanuts etc, but still there are no birds attracted to my garden. It may due to the fact my house is on a new site & it may take time for the birds to come. Any ideas?
How do I learn to care for birds well? Growing up no one in my immediate family has owned any pet birds. Then, just a couple of weeks ago I had a run-in with a friend’s African grey, and I was smitten. Since then I have been preoccupied with the thought of becoming a life long bird owner. What is a good species of bird that is hardy enough to get through the experience of having a first time care taker? I am not considering buying a long lived parrot to start with. Heaven forbid birds turn out not to be for me, and I turn ninety before the parrot dies.
How do I control, not necessarily prevent, birds from coming to my garden pond? Hi ther! So I've posted before re: garden ponds. At first it was murky water, then dead birds, and now... too many birds! I love nature, but the old addage "too much of a good thing" definitely applies to my pond. I don't mind birds seeking water, a quick bath, etc. (after all, that's the point, I know), but I seem to be getting TOO many visitors. Today I cam ehome to an abundance of bird excrement in, on and around the pond. Had to drain it again (gross), clean the stones and water in the stuff on the plants surrounding. Is there any thing to help "control" the feather friends, or should I just fill in the hole and give up? For health reasons, smell and ultimately just plain appearance, I can't have another day like today. Thanks for your suggestions!
What birds are legal and illegal to own in New Jersey? I live in New Jersey and I was thinking of getting a pet bird. I already know that Quaker birds are illegal. If you could give me a website or something that would be great. And which birds arw the best talkers but are cheap. Anything else I need to know about birds? Thank you.
What happens to the wild birds in forest fires? The Georgia/Florida fires just north of us are raging. The Osceola Forest is now burning. This morning, I find a beautiful pileated woodpecker in the trees outside my office window. I usually don't see them around here. He is about 19 inches in length and is a treat to watch because the trees here are shorter around here. Do the birds usually flee in a certain direction? I am just a beginner bird watcher, so I am not familiar with bird behavior during extreme weather conditions and forest fires. Thanks in advance for your input. I am NOT thinking of starting one, we already have ONE. I just wondered if birds flee in certain directions or if they follow the flow of smoke. It is a behavioral question that I thought birders more experienced than I could answer. Reports are coming in about the birds here in Florida. The smoke has disorientated them. My poor little feathered friends. :(( http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=animals_oddities&id=5302268
What predators make birds the mainstay of their diet? From what I've gathered, many mammals, birds of prey and reptiles will include birds as part of their diet or opportunistically, but few seem to rely heavily on birds as prey, appearing to make up a relatively small proportion of prey items. The only specialised bird predators I can think of off the top of my head are birds such as the sparrowhawk and various falcons. Are there any aside from these which eat mainly birds? Are eggs and fledglings more likely to be of major importance to predators?

How do the birds migrate thousands of kilometres non-stop? It is learnt that the birds fly thousands of kilometres non-stop to reach the desired destinations every year. Is it true that they keep on flying non-stop and without food or water for many days? How is this becoming possible for the birds and how do they organise this annual trip to the different countries of destinations? Is it not nature's wonder?

Obviously I am gathering information to prevent doing anything illegal. Do you have any suggestions on how I can have my daughter raise a baby bird? Are you suggesting a native non-domestic, non-migratory bird like quail or duck or some other game birds?

Then i put on one of those instant feeder finch socks. Im wondering where i should put the hook cause now i have in middle of window. Will the birds still come? How do I keep birds from building a nest under the dome of my propane tank? I've cleaned out several birds' nest under the dome on my propane tank and I don't know how to keep them out. I want to keep the opening open for venting, yet keep the birds out. I thought about chicken wire, but I'm afraid it might spark which wouldn't be a good thing around the propane tank. Nothing on the internet has been any help.

How can I attract birds to my bird feeders? We live in the midwest and I've hung out 6 bird feeders, we're offering niger seed, sunflower seed, mixed seed, suet...I also have a heated dish with water. All we get is squirrels which I don't want. My neighbors just dump a 25 pound bag of seed on their grass and the birds go over there but they don't come to my feeders...even when the neighbors seed is used up. I also put out bread crumbs and bits of strawberries hoping some birds that like fruit would stop by. I've taken down a flag thinking may be it was scaring them. Any ideas?
Will different breeds of birds keep each other company? One of our cockatiels recently died, and we want to get another bird to keep the surviving bird company. We want to avoid the birds mating, but also want to get a young bird so it can be handled (and young birds are hard to sex). Do you think that getting a different breed of parrot of about the same size would be okay?
How do I keep birds from eating my peaches and grapes from my fruit trees? Here in El Paso, fruit trees do very well but the birds get to the fruits before the people. I get great plums, peaches and grapes as well as tomatoes and vegetable with no chemicals or commercial fertilizers. The birds tend to eat 80% of my crops and I would like to deter them without poisons or deadly measures.
How can I prevent birds flying into my windows? I recently got a conservatory on my house but it is to the detriment of the birds in my garden. They keep flying into the glass and I have tried everything from keeping the blinds closed permanently to sticking 36 hawk figures on the windows. If this continues I think I will have to take this down but dont want to as it cost me £20, 000 to build it and I really need the extra space, plus the additional secutity and warmth it provides over my front door. Please help - I cant bear to hear the thud of the birds on the glass. I feel so guilty for having this death trap erected !
How can I get rid of pesky birds without endangering my german shephard pup? At my house tehre are these birds that think it's okay to eat my pup's food. How long are baby birds in the nest before leaving? We have a graduation party tomorrow, and there's a bird's nest in the lawn with a bunch of tiny baby birds. The nest's up high and kind of out of the way, so I don't think there will be a problem, but any general advice is appreciated.
How do you get birds out of the exhaust leading from the house? We have birds (I presume some sort of nest as well) in the exhaust leading out of our house from the microwave. How should I go about getting rid of them? I already bought some wire gauge to cover it, cleaning won't be a problem. The problem is getting the birds in there right now out, which I don't know how to do.
