How much fish food should i feed my tropical fish?
We have about 40 freshwater fish in a three foot tank and we feed them flake and a red gritty food that normally sinks. Our fish are no bigger then an inch long except for our two black knife fish. We normally give them about a teaspoon of each a day, is this to much?

- that is not enough food for that amount of fish. I would feed them twice day and only what they will consume within a few minutes. If your tank becomes cloudy reduce the amount of food you give them at each feeding. If they tend to eat the teaspoon without wasting much I would stay with that amount per feeding. If they eat it all up I would add a little more of the flakes.
- I would not say this would be too much food for the amount of fish you have. I would call my local pet store.
- not to much
- Tha's really hard to say by volume. You should feed your fish twice a day no more than they will finish in 3-4 minutes per feeding. That may work out to be more or less than you feed or right at the same. I would suspect that you need to feed a bit more though. MM
- As much as they can eat in 3-5 minutes, twice a day.
- The best bet is to feed your fish enough to eat it in about a 2 minute period. Then from there feed them about 2-3-4 times a day.
- You are supposed to feed your fish 2 x/day - no more than the amount of food they can eat in 3-5 minutes. So, start with a small amount and, as they eat, keep adding til you hit the 4 minute mark. Then you'll know. If you have juvenile/baby fish, they will need more frequent feedings.
- Watch the fish feed and if they consume all food fed within ten minutes you are feeding proper amount, if food is left over feed a bit less.
