If not ill buy my ferret a ferret buddy, because i took my fert to the pet store, and it was so interested in the rats and guinea pigs & the rabbits ( i know they dont get along with the rabbits) But with the rats he was running up and down the cages dooking at them and wardanincg? Is there any animal like ,cat or summin that could be his cagemate type o thing

  1. no just a ferret. other animals find away to kill each other. i have 2 ferrets
  2. I wouldn't recommend them living with another animal. He probably seemed interested in them because he had never been around them before. Rats... yeah. They've been known to kill a burmese python when threatened, so I wouldn't leave it with your ferret. Plus, the differences in diets, and housing needs. I'd just get another ferret. 2 ferrets are always more fun. 12 ferrets aren't any fun. My mom took in a friends unwanted ferret when I was younger, when we already had 2, and somehow other people decided we were a rescue... and we couldnt say no, and then we had 12. Then I got bit... Anyway. Ferret buddies for ferrets are the safest option.
  3. NO, that is dangerous, just another ferret that is spayed/neutered
  4. You try putting your ferret in with any type of rodent and you're asking for trouble. Ferrets have been used for centuries to control rabbit and rat population and also used on ships to kill rats due to the fact that thier bendable little bodies could follow rats into every nook and cranny, unlike the ships cat. A ferret will get excited when seeing these kind of animals but mostly its due to predatory instinct. Its not unheard of also for a large rat to kill a ferret. Its not really advisable to house any species of animal with an entirely different species and a ferret/rodent mix is definately one to avoid. Don't forget aswell that dietry requirements are completely different....obviously ferrets are carnivores unlike rodents who have a mainly seed and fruit diet so feeding would be complicated. To be fair I don't think there would be much rodent left to feed after leaving it in a cage with a ferret lol Also cats and dogs, where properly introduced and supervised, can be really good friends. My dogs play with my ferrets all the time when they are out for playtime but its best not to keep them together. The ferrets should have thier own cage and should only be allowed to play with dogs/cats while supervised. Definately you should think about getting another ferret friend. Ferrets love a friend of thier own kind and its SO funny to watch them play together. Ferrets have extemely tough skin so only another ferret can withstand the kind of rough play that ferrets enjoy. Its also great for a ferret to have a friend to snuggle up with when they're all played out and sleepy. Definately 100% get another ferret!
  5. A ferret needs to be with another ferret, they do get along with rabbits but they should be caged with another ferret.
  6. That completely depends. But firstly, why would you keep a cat in a cage with a ferret? Cats should not be in cages. Secondly, it depends on the temperament of the ferret. I have 3 ferrets that get along with anything and everything, although I wouldn't trust other animals towards them. You also need to consider the fact that ferrets don't always get along with each other. Whatever it is that you plan on keeping with your ferret, they need to go through a long process to get to know each other to see if they're compatible, no matter what their species is.
  7. NO WAY!!!!!!!! Ferrets are very much independeble, yet very terrotorial. They will either kill or get killed by another cage pet. I have four ferrets a cat, a snake and a dog. The cat and ferts get along just so well they love to wrestle and play. My snake isnt with us but up with my grandparents and my dog is with my dad. Dooking is a sign that they do not like what ever it is they are dooking at. With other ferrets war dancing alligator rolls and dooking are common when play wrestling. I always say " No blood No fowl" because if i do not see any blood i dont do anything. I have had tons of other ferrets in my life, well at least 5 more in my life. But those were child hood memories. DO NOT WHAT SO EVER PUT OTHER PETS IN THE CAGE WITH THEM. GET THEM ANOTHER FERT! AND REMEMBER, WHEN YOU LET OTHER PETS COME IN CONTACT WITH THE FERRETS, IT IS RECCOMMENDED TO SUPPERVIZE BECAUSE OF THE VERY DIFFERENT INSTINCT DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THEM.
  8. Honestly...he (the ferret) wanted nothing more then to get out of that cage and kill that rat. LOL Ferrets really are best caged with other ferrets!
