How long should ferrets be out to play each day?

We are moving into a new apartment where our two ferrets will have a (well ferret-proofed!) room all to themselves. I will not be letting them run free all day each day, but I'd like to give them ample time to play each day. How long should I let them out to play each day? 2 hours, 3?

  1. I used to have to ferrets, and after usually 3 hours they are pooped and sleeping somewhere. Enjoy them they are truly wonderfull pets!
  2. Ferrets are incredibly playful creatures, and not just with toys - your ferret's favorite toy will inevitably be you! Your ferret will need at least four hours out of his cage each day, at least two hours of which should be spent interacting with you. Avoid toys that have parts, or are made of materials your ferret could chew off and swallow.
  3. just intell they dont want to play anymore then record that time and do that every day soon it will know you and learn to love oyu because thats what i would do ..lol so ya just play with it fo one day and once it stop (after 3 hours) know only to play with her for like 2 in a half hours! and plus how do you play with a ferret?
  4. 4 hours is the minimum amount. If you can letting them out all day and not keeping them in a cage is the absolute best thing you can do. It's the healthiest thing also. That way they can choose to sleep or play and when they want to do it. They don't tend to just play for hours and then sleep for the rest of the day. They play for an hour then sleep for awhile, then play again. They will do this all day, so only letting them out for four hours at once isn't right. They will sleep for half of that. Ferrets also tend to sleep less when they aren't confined to a cage. So really think about letting them be loose all day (maybe cage them at night) or just letting them use that room like a cage. It's what's best for them.
  5. I normaly let my ferret out all day.If you have a room just for the ferrets then you can have them out all day if you want to, just close the door so they don't escape.
  6. Our 3 ferrets have their own room too.Just let them enjoy it.We've actually taken the doors off their cage. They still like the hammocks in there once in a while. If you don't want to leave them out all day-which would be better-I would say no less then 3 hrs of out playtime. They have lots of energy and they need time to expend that energy.Good luck with your new place:)
  7. 4 hours. I give my ferret free roam for about 10 hours, untill I go to bed at night, at which point and get him out of his tunnel (where hes usually already asleep) and into his cage.
  8. They should get at least four hours of out of cage time a day. If you're giving them free-roam of a room, then the four hours doesn't really come into play. Having free-roam of a room will allow them to rip around and play whenever they want to. (I'm not sure if you're saying they will get free run of the room all day or if you plan on keeping them in a cage in their own room.)
