How do you get birds out of the exhaust leading from the house?

We have birds (I presume some sort of nest as well) in the exhaust leading out of our house from the microwave. How should I go about getting rid of them? I already bought some wire gauge to cover it, cleaning won't be a problem. The problem is getting the birds in there right now out, which I don't know how to do.

1. you may need to dismantle the trunking to clean it out but when you have done so fix up a screen with a piece of fine guage wire netting so they cant get in again
