- find out some info first. Buy a book or two about care then make sure you have all the supplies needed to care for a ferret. THEN you can make the choice of which one you really like and then buy it!!!
- Ferrets are a great pet but you MUST ferret proof your house. They are like a cat but much more curious and will get themselves in trouble easily. I recommend two together they will be much happier even if you do try to spend lots of time with them. They are an animal that needs alot of cognitive stimulation and must have tubes to crawl through and other ferret toys. I also suggest a sleep sack and a hanging hammock. A good rule of thumb is if they can get their head in a hole they will be able to go through it. Be CAREFUL around dryers, toilets, dishwashing machines, even the fridge. Also do not be afraid to scruff your ferret it tells them your the boss, I have even scruffed a ferret with my own mouth, it does not hurt them. Do not give them alot of baths, you would think it would make them smell better but its makes their body produce more oil that still makes them smell a bit. Feed them 8in1 ultimate. It has a very high protein level. Ferrets should not be feed any fruit or veggies they need little to no fiber in their diet. Try to adopt there are many good ferrets out there that need homes. Try to get the biggest cage possible it will make your ferret much happier. I linked a cage that I highly recommend and even use. You can find it cheaper if you look around. To get to your question about the staircase....it just depends on what it looks like I would suggest if it can fall off it probably will. So make the staircase a no no area.
- Well I have four ferrets right now and let me tell you its not easy. But I have to say ferrets have to be by far the best pets. They are cute and fun just to watch play. But back to your question its always good to by them in two's if your up to it. Ferrets need a lot of attention and having a play mate for them is a good option. I have Marshall ferrets. Marshall raises their ferrets healthy and they aren't all about making a profit. But that's just my opinion, you should find out were any ferrets your looking at came from to see if they were treated right. Ferrets are like having a baby they sleep a lot, eat a lot, and most importantly poop a lot. So you should in mind if your not sure weather you want one or not. But I have to say I love mine....Teddy,Timmy,Tinker-bell,Trouble you are SO cute!....
- Their pelet is the only thing they need to eat, unless you give them meat. They can NOT digest plant matter, and here is a good cage for them. 2 is better then 1, but 1 can still e happy if you get it out alot. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=17473&cmpid=09csegb&ref=3312&subref=AA&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=0028059000000 this cage is plenty big for 2 ferrets and if you want more info, look here-- http://www.hugawoozel.com/ferretcare.html But be prepared, ferrets have a musk gland and will still stink if you have them de-scented. 1 last thing. Ferrets are not rodents, wrong section. =) Good luck!
- BEFORE even getting a couple of ferrets, get the book "Ferrets For Dummies" 2nd edition and read. There are a lot of pros and cons to having ferrets. It covers everything from shots, diseases, cages, adrenal disease, insulinoma and much, much more!!
- http://www.freewebs.com/furryfriendlover/ is my site. It has an in depth care sheet on ferrets. Ferrets are social, and will do well in pairs. They don't need a roommate, but it is a lot easier to have two. They will always have a friend to play with, which will keep them busy and well socialized.
- before i got my Kizzy i researched on-line put Ferret into a search engine and you will find a wealth of info. Also talk to vets, owners if you know any and pet shops . Ferret Nation Cages are very popular!
- Ferrets can make great pets for the right people. To find out of they are the right one for you, get a couple books on the subject of pet ferrets and their needs, Ferrets for Dummies is good, also there are many internet forums and websites that allow you to ask specific questions both before and after you get your pet, consider the costs including vet care, and visit a local rescue that takes in ferrets, so that you can meet and play with some. The stair case should probably be blocked off as it can cause a falling hazard for ferrets and any room they are allowed to roam should be ferret proofed before letting them out of a cage. Ferrets are social animals and need a lot of interaction, they'll need 3-4 hours a day out of cage time to run around and play, ideally you should consider getting two older, nip trained ferrets to start out with as they will be able to keep each other company and play rough ferret games that aren't so much fun for people lol Good luck in your search!
- I think you should get 2 ferrets because if you get one it can be lonely and 2 is the same amout of work as having one. BUT make should you get them together as babies or just make sure they like each other because introducing ferrets later on can be hard. Also rules to rememmber if you are trying to introduce ferrets later.... 2 boys = hell no 2 girls = maybe 1 boy 1 girl = good chance * if they are brought up from babies together then this rule doesnt apply. * Also it depends if the ferret is desexed or not. Good idea to do so though.
