Hamsters..?
My sister has these 2 Russian Dwarf hamsters, one is a dwarf but the other 1 is massive and attacks the little one all the time. Should they really be living together? The pet shop said its common for them to fight but i fear the little one is going to be killed soon because the big one always overpowers it.

- prbably best to separate them. but keep the cages next to eachother in the hopes they will get used to eachother and may be reunited. it also helps if they are different sexes
- it is common with dwarf hamsters in pairs to fight my friend has a pair and they fight all the time just make sure the small one eats more and the big one less, if u catch them fighting do ur best to split them up. other wise take them to a vet or hamster specialist! :)
- This happened with my hampsters. The pet store ppl say its common, but that doesn't mean its not a big deal. One of my hampsters ended up with a torn ear and missing toes. Sometimes he'd have tears in his back and stomach. They got along most of the time, but everynow and then they fight. I guess its normal; just keep an eye out for injuries that could be fatal.
- SEPARATE THEM! I had two russian dwarfs too. The pet store said it was ok then I learned afterwards that it isn't. Especially not if it is two females which mine were. Better that they have their own space. So either separate cages or a cage with partitions. One ended up dying at about 6 months. We never saw them fighting but I did noticed that one was getting bigger than the other thought they started out the same size. Really liked both of them then one day when I woke up one was dead. The other lived till she was just over 2 years old then passed away.
- NO,,, you should separate them IMMEDIATELY. They will fight to the death, and the big one will probably win and kill the little one. GOOD LUCK.
- Maybe they are different spedies . If they are ,that could cause a really bad fight between them. They might try to kill themselves. Separate them and take them to the petstore and ask them if they are the same species.
- Oh please do not keep them together anymore! Take them apart unless you want a heartbroken sister, if you know what I mean...
- Okaii, I've owned all different breeds of Hamsters. So I'm used to separating them. Dwarfs are very common to be needed to split up. So what I would do in the meantime is buy another cage. Not just in case they need to be split up but you could use it for medical cases as if One has been ill and needs to be in quarantined. Okaii, Now if you do see blood I would seperate them immediately. Over wise you'll end up with an half eaten hamster - Trust me I've been there it's heartbreaking. If they are fighting but no blood. I would make sure they have enough room. I would buy a bigger cage. Two of everything, Wheels such and such. Most hamsters are very territorial. Don't listen to the others. Some hamsters do need to be split up. But that is usually because they are syrians. Dwarf Hamsters are totally different. They can be kept together. I would seperate them if you see blood. Otherwise it's just over space. No worries their. www.hamster-heaven.com < Great site has a Hamster forum. [Message board] Hope I helped.
- i think the larger one could possibly be a syrian so if it is a syrian that means THEY CAN NEVER live together. You should really just seperate them because even if the other is a dwarf (probably not) it is not normal if you think they're fighting enough for the one to be killed
- put them in separate cages hamster usually stay alone i tried that with m y 2 guy hamster and they fought if you keep them in the same cage the small 1 will probably die
- Separate them unless you want a dead hamster in your house.
